homegrown

I came to the coffee shop to make some posts since I haven't posted in 29384732984723 years but don't get your hopes up if you are looking for a post from a session because life has not permitted any sessions lately. I have been out of town on a couple weekends and then we had a weekend that looked like this:

which was beautiful--but not conducive for picture taking...unless i had one of those halo umbrellas that sticks on your head like a head dress, or a personal assistant to hold my umbrella.

so i didn't do much photographing on this weekend...instead i made a lot of projects. I love "do it yourself" stuff and just making simple things like cards and bracelets. I had never tried my hand at making cosmetics but I found this little recipe for homemade lip gloss and it seemed so simple so I took the plunge with my friend Muriel. You have met her before on the blog--she has red hair and a smile that makes the world seem right. Here is what we came up with:

We decorated these used-to-be-jelly jars with tissue paper and magazine clippings but the lip gloss is inside and we think burt's bees better watch out!

Here is the recipe if anyone wants to try it:

Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl. Microwave the mixture for 30 seconds. If that doesn't melt it try 10 more seconds. Just do it until it is clear looking...no chunks and not milky. The pour it into the containers and let it cool! So easy!! We used grapefruit oil so ours were grapefruit flavored but at the natural store you can get a million falvors of oil so you can pick. They sell paraffin wax at the grocery store for canning--so look on that aisle. One other tip-food coloring is water based and cannot color something oilly like this but when we dropped it in it made tons of little color bubbles and we thought it looked cool...so try this if you're a dare devil.

I hope somebody enjoys this recipe! And I promise I intend to photgraph three couple this weekend if the weather cooperates and i will make a "real post."
