HARPER

I just got back from spending a few days in Dallas with two of my best friends from college who married each other. I know, I'm lucky that happened. And the luck continues. Laura and Matt became prego almost two years ago and I knew it was the start of something good. They are an incredible collision of laid-back and outrageously-funny-and-weird. I secretly hoped their child would be outrageous, funny, and weird.

She is. And she's sweet, happy, excited, inquisitive...AND THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. I've always had a problem getting a little too riled up about small, cute, and soft stuff but I couldn't be controlled in Harper's presence. Or in the presence of the images I've been editing of her. I just want to squeeze her! I think she's the greatest thing ever. I hope that if I have a kid, I'm half as good at raising it as Matt and Laura are. They are so fun and patient with her...and so so so so so intentional. I need to be more of that in a million ways in my life.

I almost forgot to tell the luckiest part. Harper's due date was scheduled to be February 3rd...my birthday!! I was so sure it was going to happen and I knew that if it didn't Laura would make them induce her before midnight on that bless-ed day. She didn't. Sad, I know. But I think they felt pretty bad about it so to make up for it they let Harper share the same middle name as me. Here she is! Harper Rae!
